Out of Harm’s Way

My sister is about to have a baby girl. My family is so excited because this will be the first baby/grandchild. For the past several months my sister has been preparing her house to welcome in the new baby. That means buying baby clothes and furniture.

Modern parents know better than to let their babies sleep in their beds with them. It’s a serious safety hazard to let baby sleep in the same bed with parents because there’s always the possibility that one parent may roll on the baby. This is why my sister and many other parents these days are placing bassinets by their beds for baby to sleep in. Keeping baby in a bassinet by the bed allows mom easy access for late night feedings and keeps the baby out of harm’s way.

Getting Your Newborn to Sleep

Babies are notoriously fussy, and it can often be a challenge to get them to sleep for a nap or during the nighttime hours.  To help your baby to get to sleep faster and also sleep for longer periods of time, there are a number of practices that you can institute.  For example, babies are naturally attracted to their mother’s voice and warmth, and will be calmed by their mere presence.  You might also consider a wood rocker baby cradle; the soothing motion will help calm fussy babies, and ensure that they fall asleep in their cradle instead of in your arms; waking them up after they fall asleep is the worst!  You can also provide your baby a glass of warm milk which will help them to rest peacefully.

Whatever you do be sure to talk to your baby while you’re doing it, your voice will relieve them and ensure that they get to sleep faster.
